How to enjoy Eurovision....When there is no Eurovision || Cancelled Rotterdam 2020 plans!
Aaaah… if like me you get that sad slump after returning from Eurovision knowing you won't have it for another year, you're probably feeling that right now with it having been cancelled! Everyone has had holidays cancelled or put on hold, but we're feeling it that extra bit as every Eurovision is different and it really is only a once a year kind of thing.
But I have actually been enjoying this time more than I thought I would! Please read on to find out
How to enjoy Eurovision, when Eurovision has been cancelled…
Eurovision Again
Every Saturday night at 8pm, Eurovision Song Contest are streaming an old Eurovision Song Contest live on their Youtube channel. The year is announced on Twitter 15 minutes before it goes live and everyone joins in to comment on Twitter using the hashtag #EurovisionAgain. It is sooo much fun! The Twitterati are hilarious! And even as someone who "doesn't really get Twitter", it really feels like I'm with my people, without being able to be with anyone. It's that sense of togetherness that feels all lovely and warm inside.
The whole show is aired and at the end where the tele voting happens, you are invited as part of the Twitter Jury to vote online and rank the songs. The traditional Eurovision points method is used, 12pts for your favourite etc down to 1 pt for 10th place. These are then collated and at the end of the televoting, the results are published to Twitter. Have our tastes changed? And who are the winners of the year based on the real fans?
It's such a great way to spend my Saturday nights. Last Saturday was my favourite of the ones I haven't been to, Stockholm 2016. EVERY song is killer and no filler. Not to mention the interval, name a better interval ….I'll wait! Justin Timberlake AND Love Love, Peace Peace? Plus Mans and Petra are just so natural at presenting which makes it easy to watch, AND to be hilarious in your second language…I struggle in just my first! Tee hee!
TIP:- If you’re like me and don’t really “get” Twitter, just type in the hashtag #EurovisionAgain and click on “Latest” at the top. Just keep refreshing this feed to see the tweets in chronological order as you watch.
Plan a Zoom Euro -I mean Home- Club party!
Thanks to non stop quizzes and remote working, we're all getting a dab hand at using Zoom. So put up your Europe flag bunting and get the Martini Rosso out (no, just me then?) and have a virtual Eurovision party with friends. There are Spotify playlists already set up filled with the best tracks to put you in the EuroClub mood!
At home Lockdown Eurovision concerts
A lot of current TV shows are being filmed from home and linking up to guests in their homes. Eurovision are also doing something similar with At Home concerts every Friday at 5pm streaming on YouTube. These feature entrants from across the years singing both their own and covers of other entrants songs.
Tonight's looks to be a good one! With my favourite entrants from this year, The Mamas and 2020 favourite Hera Bjork, as well as UK representatives James Newman and Surie and guilty pleasure Jedward!
Here’s the link to the YouTube Channel.
Saturday 16th May - Grand Final BBC Alternative viewing!
Ok, so not my catchiest subtitle, but you get what I'm getting at! The BBC seem to have more Eurovision content planned than when there's an actual Eurovision Song Contest. Eurovision: Come Together is on at 6.30pm and there's an A-Z of Eurovision on BBC2 at 10pm. Inbetween that I’ll be trying to find a stream of Europe Sine a Light, which is replacing the Grand Final show.
Hustle to make next years Eurovision FREE!
If you're finding yourself with some extra downtime, why not use this time to make some extra money from home, to put towards next years costs? I've written an entire post about it here. A lot of the things I talk about are things that can be done from home, surveys, setting up automated saves, writing articles. It can cost around £1,500 to have a luxury Eurovision holiday, and lets be honest who wouldn’t want that? So wouldn't it be fabulous if you could pay for it and not have to struggle to find the money?! £1,500 for free! Well, in exchange for a little time.
So here's my round up. I hope you like it. Let me know how you've been enjoying this run up to Eurovision in lockdown and tell me of I've missed something. I'd def like to know!
